I'd like to volunteer as a coach or team manager, what do I need to do?

Is there a refund for my child's registration if I coach?

Your child's registration will be refunded at the end of the season assuming you are there to coach during the season

We will only reimburse 2 coaches per team. 

 

I'm planning on being out of town during part of the season, can I still coach?

Yes! BSL recognizes that the summer season is a time when families often travel or scheduling changes week to week. Let us know as soon as you can about your planned absence and we will either find a coach to fill in or build your team with a team manager or another coach.

 

I'm not sure if I should sign on to be a team manager or a coach, which one should I do?

Volunteers that sign on as coaches offers us the most flexibility toward building properly sized and balanced teams because team managers must be paired with coaches. If it is a matter of experience that makes you hesitant to sign on as a coach, we offer pre-season coach training to provide you with the rules of the game and practice ideas.  

 

My coach(es) can't make it to the practice/game, can I step in to help?

No. All team staff volunteers, even those functioning for only one practice/game, must have completed the required training and background check prior to participation. If you'd like to be considered an available volunteer, please sign up as team staff during registration or contact our coach liaison if registration has closed.

 

Can I coach with another coach?

Yes.  Please place your request when you fill out our registration in step 2.6.

 

My player really wants to be on the same team as their buddy.  Is there a way to guarantee that they will be on the same team?

Actually there is! If the parents/guardians of two players sign on as coaches AND request each other to co-coach a team (registration step 2.6), their respective players are guaranteed to be placed on the same team provided that they are in the same division.

 

How many coaches can my team have?

A team can have up to three (3) volunteer staff comprised of a coach plus team managers or other coaches.  We reserve the right to redistribute coaches and team managers if we are unable to fulfill volunteer staff for all teams in a division.  A coach plus another coach or team manager means that game and practice cancellations due to coach absence is far less likely. This is why we encourage any and all available volunteers to sign up.
