Game Cancellations due to Coach Absence
coach absence header
Above all else, BSL strives to provide a safe environment for their players. This includes the screening and training process we put all player-facing volunteers through prior to the season start.
Under no circumstances should someone other than a BSL-approved coach or team manager act as a coach for your team.
Players
You will be informed by your coach or team manager if your game or practice is cancelled due your coach's absence. Likewise, your coach or team manager will inform you of the rescheduled game and practice time.
Coaches
Planned Absences (ex. vacation)
Your team's other coach or the team manager can move forward with your practices and games as planned.
If you don't have another coach or team manager on your team, inform the BSL President as soon as you can with when you will need a substitute coach. The BSL President will either find a qualified substitute for the game or inform you of the cancellation. When your absence date approaches, let your team know about the substitute coach or cancellation.
Impromptu Absence (ex. sickness, scheduling conflict)
If you have a team manager or another coach, follow the instructions above for a planned absence.
Otherwise, inform your team and BSL President that you will be absent for the upcoming game. The BSL President will inform the other team of your absence and the following will occur depending on your division:
- 6U & 8U: practice and games will go on as scheduled with either a substitute coach or combined practice with the opposing team.
- 10U & 13U: practice is cancelled, games need to be rescheduled. The BSL Board will contact the league Referee Assignor to cancel the scheduled game and the MURSL Game Change Request form needs to be filled out by all coaches and league directors for the teams involved. Once a rescheduled date and location are confirmed with both teams and their MURSL representatives, inform your team of the new game date.
