Frequently Asked Questions

And some of their answers

The weather forecast for my game day looks uncertain, when and how will I know if the game is canceled/rescheduled?

You will be notified by e-mail within the hour before your game as to if your game is cancelled.

The rescheduled game time (if done) will be communicated by your team manager or coach.

My player will be participating in other soccer leagues this season, are they eligible to play in BSL?

If your player is registered to play with a competitive soccer league (for example, Brighton Football Club, River Flow Soccer, Lake Front Soccer, etc.), they cannot register with BSL.  All players who register with competitive soccer leagues are checked against our player rosters at the beginning of the season. Anyone on both lists will be asked to leave and their registration fees will be refunded.

I'd like to volunteer as a coach or team manager, what do I need to do?

Details regarding registering to volunteer are here.

I'm not sure if I should sign on to be a team manager or a coach, which one should I do?

Volunteers that sign on as coaches offers us the most flexibility toward building properly sized and balanced teams because team managers must be paired with coaches.  If it is a matter of experience that makes you hesitant to sign on as a coach, we offer pre-season coach training to provide you with the rules of the game and practice ideas.

My coach(es) can't make it to the practice/game, can I step in to help?

No. All team staff volunteers, even those functioning for only one practice/game, must have completed the required training and background check prior to participation. If you'd like to be considered an available volunteer, please sign up as team staff during registration or contact our coach liaison if registration has closed.

Can I coach with another coach?

Yes.  Please place your request when you fill out our registration in step 2.6.

How are the teams made?

For each division, we start with our list of coaches and distribute the players among them with the following considerations in the order listed:

  1. Players are placed on the same team as their parent/guardian coach unless the coach requests otherwise.
  2. Teams with a single coach are matched with team managers and their respective players.
  3. Player buddy requests (first buddy only).
  4. Age and gender.

My player really wants to be on the same team as their buddy.  Is there a way to guarantee that they will be on the same team?

Actually there is! If the parents/guardians of two players sign on as coaches AND request each other to co-coach a team (registration step 2.6), their respective players are guaranteed to be placed on the same team provided that they are in the same division.
